Day 2 complete

An eventful but rewarding ride today. We must have thought someone was following us as we had to turn around twice on the way out of Santa Cruz. The route down to Monterey was quite busy but we found the Pacific Coast Bike Route, eventually. Here is a photo of a sea lion at the pier. we had a pleasant walk in the morning fog on the pier.



Then it was a series of sprints to Moss Landing for the best hamburgers so far at Phil's Snack Shack. There is little chance we will lose weight this week anyway. Also at Moss Landing is a colony of about 200-300 sea lions, they were all packed together on a pier. Quite smelly and noisy.


Today Goose started the ride by falling off his bike with is first pedal luckily he was unhurt, but we all laughed.

Then on the outskirts of Monterey there was a battle between the bike path and Garmin. Needless to say the peloton followed Garmin and ended up getting an extra 20 km more riding while wighty who was driving followed adjacent to the bike path and made it to the stage finish an hour before the peloton. The officials had no choice but to award wighty the stage win as the peloton was nowhere to be seen.

The weather remains sunny, warm and cool at night. There is no way you would ride a bike north as the wind is pretty strong from the north west every day.
In this shot Goose leads the bunch through strawberry farms to monterey ($2 a box).



Points total saw a new yellow jersey winner with wighty claiming the lead due to his stage win from the drivers seat!!! you know what they say its not who is in yellow during the race but at the end that counts!!
