MT DIABLO - TICK

Today was the start of the prologue, at last we were on the bikes. First up an 8 30 trip to Walmart for supplies, bananas at $1.20 a kilo. Then we wondered whether we could fit all the bikes in the back for the 40 mile commute up the freeway to the start of the Mt Diablo State Park.



Looks like they fitted all right, there are 6 bikes in there.

It was 18 km to the top, highest gradient was 16 per cent for the last 150m. You guessed it Ferdy bolted and was first to the top,however, as he was out of uniform he collected bonus points. Here are Peter and Rod looking at the scenery on the way to 3849 Ft climb, about an hour and a half to the top and half an hour to the bottom on a very nice hot mix surface. Temperature was mid 20 s.











So ferdy is in yellow and Michael has 'red' the little kangaroo which he has to carry with him as he is in last place on points. See he is sitting on his left shoulder.
We then journeyed to walnut creek for a BBQ reunion with my long lost friend steve. Thanks steve for your great hospitality and also to your neighbor also steve for letting us check out his man cave.

Tomorrow we head for another climb up the observatory near Cupertino.
